The first visit to the ophthalmologist: What do I have to bear in mind?

Whether preventive or acute, a first visit to the ophthalmologist is an important measure to give your own eye health the attention it needs. We make it a point to make this experience both pleasant and informative for you. In this blog post, we therefore answer the most frequently asked questions from patients visiting us for the first time.

What documents do I need to bring with me?
Your health and seamless care are important to us. Therefore, we ask you to bring a valid insurance card, official identification, a list of current medications and information about your medical history and previous eye examinations to your first appointment. If you already wear glasses or contact lenses, please bring these with you as well.

What do I need to consider before the examination?
Before you come to us, there are a few things you should consider. Make sure you bring a companion to drive you, if necessary. Some examinations involve the use of eye drops, which may temporarily affect your vision. Also, avoid wearing eye make-up to ensure an accurate examination. For contact lens wearers, please do not wear your lenses on the day of the examination but bring your glasses. Form-stable or “hard” contact lenses should not be used for 3 days before the examination, as otherwise a possible eye test may be falsified.

What can I expect at my first visit?
At your first visit we will not only perform a thorough eye examination, but also take time to discuss your eye health history and any current complaints or concerns. You will undergo various tests based on state-of-the-art technologies to provide an accurate diagnosis and, if necessary, an appropriate treatment plan. Our professionals are here to answer all your questions and guide you through the process.
