Macular Degeneration

Screening for Early Detection of Macular Degeneration

The term macular degeneration refers to an age-related, degenerative retinal disease in which the ability to see is reduced by retinal cells dying off. Symptoms include a negative effect on the visual acuity and of the visual field. While the outer visual field, i.e. the orientation ability, is retained, the patient can indeed see the outline of a conversation partner but cannot recognize his or her features.

Today, macular degeneration is the main cause of blindness in older individuals, which is why patients over 60 years of age and/or their family members should have themselves tested regularly. If macular degeneration is detected early, its course can be significantly lessened with new technologies and medications.

We screen your eyes with the OCT laser scan, especially for the early signs of macular degeneration. That puts you as the patient years ahead in the early detection and in the treatment.
